Start Permafrost by completing the cabin and warmth tasks, reach Horizon and speak to Robyn, finish the food introduction, rescue the dog, then build the functional base requested by New Home. That sequence teaches the tools and shelter you need before the Woods and Church quest chains. Check each active objective before taking a reward blueprint or repairing a story device.
This guide focuses on a practical early route, with no promised completion time or invented material counts. Use the requirements displayed by your current crafting screen for quantities. In co-op, the host should perform main story interactions, and guests can join only after the host reaches the cabin. The game is in Early Access, so an objective that fails to register can be a quest fault rather than a reason to restart immediately.

Decide who owns the world before progressing
If you are starting alone, proceed in the world you intend to keep. If you are starting with friends, choose the host before everyone invests in separate solo characters. Characters are world-bound; your solo character does not carry into a friend's world.
The host opens the world through Play and Host Multiplayer. Loading it as a solo session does not create a joinable multiplayer session. Choose the intended world, password, and player slots, then let the host reach the cabin before guests attempt to join.
The guest should either use Join Multiplayer Sessions or, for Steam invitations, launch Permafrost and remain at the main menu before accepting the invitation. Returning to the same host world later is the route for continuing that group's progress. Creating a second world with the same host does not make it the original world.
Make one simple agreement before play: the host performs main story conversations, quest repairs, and Skinwalker reward interactions. Guests can help explore and gather, but this division avoids treating a guest's interaction as a guaranteed way to update the shared story.
Complete the cabin tasks in A New Beginning
The first phase teaches immediate survival and access. Follow the objective rather than roaming away as soon as you can move. The early sequence includes making a Stone Axe, placing a Campfire, warming up, opening the cabin door, and unlocking Rope in the blueprint tree.

Warming-interaction reference; compare the prompts in your own opening area.
Use this order as a checklist, while allowing the active objective to tell you what is currently required:
- Inspect the Stone Axe recipe and gather its displayed ingredients.
- Craft the axe through the available crafting interface.
- Build the Campfire required by the introductory task.
- Warm up and verify whether the objective advances.
- Complete the cabin-door step.
- Unlock Rope when the blueprint objective asks for it.
- Read the next objective before leaving for a new destination.
The distinction between crafting, building, and using an object matters. Producing the right object is not always the entire task; the objective can also require placing it or warming at it. If the tracker still names a step, compare its action word with what you actually did.
Do not rely on controller crafting if that input method is blocking the task. Controller crafting remains listed as unavailable in the current known issues. That is a narrower limitation than the whole game failing to recognize a controller, and changing the quest route does not address it.
Reach Horizon and finish the food introduction
Feel The Heat moves the early route out of the cave toward Horizon. Find Robyn and complete the conversation belonging to the active objective. The next food introduction, Horizon's Kitchen, asks you to cook meat into a dish and speak to Robyn again.

Identify Robyn before completing the active Horizon conversation.
Treat these as two separate checks: reaching the settlement and completing the character interaction. Merely standing near Robyn does not prove the required conversation has been registered. Likewise, carrying raw meat does not satisfy an instruction to cook a dish.
The nearby beginner tasks introduce survival basics such as braziers, stone tools, and the Crude Bow. Follow the task that unlocks or teaches the thing you currently need. You do not need to treat every visible blueprint as an immediate purchase, especially when a later quest can supply access to another station or set of clothes.
At this point, begin keeping short notes of useful places. Record Horizon, the cave route, and the place you intend to return to after gathering. Custom map markers can disappear on relaunch, so a recognizable name is more durable than a lone symbol with no description.
Horizon itself is a No Build Zone. Do not assume the settlement is an unrestricted location for your own base merely because it is the first friendly place you reach. Use the building permissions and the next base objective to choose where your construction belongs.
Rescue the dog during Dog Days
The early dog quest directs you into Bone Cave. The rescue sequence is to heal the injured dog with a bandage and feed it raw Meat. Prepare both kinds of supply before committing to the trip, then follow the interactions displayed by the game.
The important preparation distinction is raw Meat versus the cooked dish used in Horizon's Kitchen. They belong to different actions. If you use the food introduction as your model for every feeding requirement, you can arrive with the wrong item even though your inventory contains food.
Once rescued, the dog is a companion intended to scout, warn of danger, and carry supplies. This guide does not assign a fixed dog-inventory key or capacity because those details are not verified for the current build. Use the current Controls screen and interaction prompts rather than assuming a control layout from a preview.
In multiplayer, the world has one dog belonging to the host. A guest may see the moving harness without the dog due to a known visibility problem. That does not automatically mean the rescue failed or that every guest needs to repeat it in the host world.
Build the functional base requested by New Home
New Home gives your first base a concrete purpose. Its early construction list includes a Workbench, Wooden Wall, Wooden Doorway, Wooden Floor or Roof, Wooden Door, and a Bed that you build and claim. The crafting portion asks for a Flint Pickaxe, Flint Axe, and Flint Shiv.

Construction reference: a placement preview and an unfinished objective list are shown, not a completed base.
| Part of the objective | Check before moving on |
|---|---|
| Workbench | The requested station has actually been built |
| Wooden structural pieces | The required pieces are placed and accepted by the objective |
| Wooden Door | The doorway and door are treated as separate parts |
| Bed | Both construction and claiming are completed |
| Flint tools | The exact requested tool names are crafted |
Keep the layout small enough to finish and use. A larger building does not remove a missing bed claim or a missing tool. Complete the functional requirements first, then expand when you know which station, storage, or route the extra construction will serve.
Check recipe quantities in the game before collecting materials. This guide deliberately does not supply guessed counts for a full starter house. Structural choices change the amount needed, and a screenshot of one layout would not establish a universal bill of materials.
Once the objective completes, use the base as a staging point for the next outing. Before departure, identify the next named destination and the equipment needed there. The Flint tools are progress in their own right, but they should not be treated as proof that every later resource or locked container is accessible.
Move into the Woods with the quest active
The Outpost directs the route toward Hunter's Glade. Skinwalker and the tower are important landmarks in the following quest sequence. Read the objective on arrival before repairing a device or opening a reward box.
For High Frequency, build the radio at your base before repairing the tower radio. A tower repaired before the quest becomes active may fail to register. This is why the useful early habit is checking the journal before a one-time story interaction, rather than repairing every broken machine as soon as you discover it.
The latest verified quest changes allow High Frequency to complete while Hopes and Dreams is active. An old instruction to avoid having both active is no longer the current rule. That change does not guarantee that every previously damaged save has been repaired, so distinguish a new attempt from a save that was already stuck.
If you are in co-op, let the host perform this stage's story interactions. Before the key action, the host should confirm the active objective and the group should agree who will use the object. This avoids uncertainty afterward about which player performed the step.
Prepare the tailoring step before the Church journey
The early clothing route includes the Tailoring Bench blueprint and Tribal clothing associated with Skinwalker's reward box during The Way Home or House into a Home. It leads toward House Camp and Church, so finish the preparation task before treating the next destination as an ordinary scavenging stop.
Current guidance recommends the host open Skinwalker's reward box alone. Skipping his dialogue with Space can help blueprints appear. These are troubleshooting instructions when the reward interaction fails; they are not a promise that every existing quest state will recover.
When the blueprint is available, study it and use the matching station requirements shown in your game. The listed Tribal set includes Boots, Cowl, Gloves, Jacket, and Pants. Check which pieces your active objective requires rather than assuming that owning one piece completes the clothing stage.
At Church, Anna and the existing dismantling workbench become useful next stops. Save detailed material processing and roof-key actions for the objective that asks for them. The immediate beginner goal is to arrive with a working base, appropriate preparation, and a clear idea of the next required interaction.
Diagnose a blocked early step before restarting
When an objective stays active, first compare the exact requirement with your actions. Check whether you built rather than merely crafted, claimed rather than only placed, cooked rather than carried raw food, or studied rather than merely collected a blueprint. In co-op, confirm that the host performed the story interaction.
Then distinguish a missing prerequisite from a known fault. A wrong tool is a prerequisite problem. A guest-side invisible dog is a visibility problem. A story device used before its quest became active can be a registration problem. They do not share one universal fix.
Keep the current world and the last completed step identifiable before experimenting. Note the quest name, the action performed, and whether the objective changed. Do not delete the world solely because an unrelated old workaround failed. Finish the next supported step when it is available, and treat an unresolved quest-state fault as unresolved instead of inventing a new sequence of repairs.
