Goal
A usable New Home staging base
Full building cost

Maximum roof span
Unverified

Build the pieces named by New Home, claim the Bed, craft the requested Flint tools and confirm warmth recovery before expanding.

This is a functional base plan; exact building costs, roof spans and an optimal layout are not verified here.

Equipment

Construction
Workbench, requested Wooden structural pieces, Door and claimed Bed
Heating
Fuelled, active Campfire with access to Warm Hands
Quest tools
Flint Pickaxe, Flint Axe and Flint Shiv when requested by New Home

Best for

Players completing New Home who need a base they can craft, recover and prepare from.

Avoid if

New Home is not active, the chosen location blocks construction, or you need a measured endgame defensive layout.

How it works

Separate the quest's placed structures, the bed claim and actual warmth recovery into three completion checks.

Equipment priority

FirstRequired Workbench, structural pieces and BedPlace the items named by the current objective and claim the Bed before optional expansion.
Before restingCampfire and fuelLight the fuelled fire, use Warm Hands and inspect Body Warmth rather than assuming a finished roof makes the room warm.

Build order

  1. Read the active New Home objective and check construction permission at the chosen location.
  2. Inspect the displayed requirements for the Workbench and requested Wooden pieces.
  3. Build the requested structure and Bed; complete the claim interaction.
  4. Craft the requested Flint tools and check whether the objective advances.
  5. Verify usable heat and warmth recovery before preparing the next trip.

How to play

Use the finished base to restore warmth and prepare only the supplies needed for the next named destination.

What can break the build

Roof rejection can be a placement fault even where foundations exist. A built Bed or roof does not establish that resting and heating conditions are satisfied.

Evidence limit

This is a practical editorial plan, not an in-game tested layout. The cited quest dataset is 0.44.2.4634-milestone; current costs, roof limits and quest behavior require checking in your installed Early Access build.

The useful starter base in Permafrost is a place to finish New Home, recover warmth and prepare the next outing. Complete its required structures, claim the Bed and check that the requested tools register. Expand after those functions work. This plan follows documented objectives; it does not prescribe a universal house size or material total.

Before you place the first wall

Read the active journal objective and inspect the building permission at your chosen site. Horizon is a restricted building area in the documented beginner route, so proximity to a friendly settlement does not establish permission to build there. Use the beginner progression guide if New Home has not started.

In co-op, continue in the group's intended host world. The world and character rules matter: a similar-looking base in a different world is not the same group's progress. Let the host perform main quest interactions and inspect the journal afterward.

Complete the functional shell

The documented New Home list includes a Workbench, Wooden Wall, Wooden Doorway, Wooden Floor or Roof, Wooden Door and a Bed. Follow the current objective if its wording differs. Inspect each displayed recipe before collecting materials; this page has no verified complete-house bill of materials.

Treat the doorway and door as separate requirements. After placing the Bed, complete its claim action. The quest also requests Flint Pickaxe, Flint Axe and Flint Shiv. Building a larger room cannot replace a missing claim or an unfinished tool craft.

Keep access to the station and resting area clear as you place the required pieces. Check the live objective and placement preview for any required foundation or support; this plan does not assign a fixed foundation count. If a roof section is rejected, keep the working part of the shelter and test the failed area first. The roof support checks explain why an observed placement failure is not a universal span measurement.

Make the resting area usable

A completed roof is a construction result; actual heating needs a separate check. Supply the Campfire with fuel, turn it on, approach it and use Warm Hands. Watch Body Warmth begin recovering before counting the base as a reliable stop.

If the bed cannot be used, inspect the active heat and warmth condition instead of immediately rebuilding the roof. A light source does not establish that the character is warm enough. Follow Body Warmth recovery when the meter still falls near the finished shelter.

Check the result before expanding

The plan is complete when the relevant journal requirements register, the Bed is claimed and the warming stop actually works. Those checks are more useful than a screenshot of a finished exterior.

Then choose the next destination and prepare its supplies. Add stations or space when they serve that trip or a real recipe. If the journal remains blocked despite the correct actions, use the co-op quest checklist to separate a missing action from a registration problem. Preserve the world while diagnosing it.

Sources and plan limits

The quest reference is 0.44.2.4634-milestone, not a guarantee for every later patch. This plan has not been tested in-game; compare its steps with the current objective and station prompts.

Finish the functional New Home requirements, confirm that the bed is claimed, and keep a working warming point before expanding.
