Permafrost Cold Expedition Loadout

Prepare equipped clothing, usable portable heat and a recovery route before entering colder terrain for one clear objective.

← Back to catalogue
Goal
A prepared outward and return trip
Universal safe insulation threshold
Unverified
Guaranteed heater duration
Unverified

Compare equipped cold protection, inspect Makeshift Heater condition, recover Body Warmth and choose the route back before entering the Cold Zone.

Check the live warmth meter after entry. No universal outfit threshold or guaranteed safe duration is established here.

Equipment

Clothing
Equipped pieces with cold protection suitable for the actual route
Portable protection
Usable Makeshift Heater when available; inspect its condition and active effect
Recovery
A known active warming point and suitable food or drink with a displayed warming effect

Best for

Players preparing a short objective-focused visit into colder terrain with a known route back to heat.

Avoid if

Body Warmth is already near zero, portable equipment is exhausted, or no usable recovery point has been identified.

How it works

Clothing, portable protection and temporary effects contribute to a limited exposure budget. Check the live meter after entry; improved protection can still leave warmth draining.

Build order

  1. Choose one named objective and identify a usable warming point on the return route.
  2. Compare equipped clothing rather than assuming an entire named set is an upgrade.
  3. Inspect portable heater condition and any warming consumable's displayed effects.
  4. Recover Body Warmth at an active heat source before departure.
  5. Check the meter after entering the colder area; complete the objective or turn back before the reserve is exhausted.

How to play

Keep the visit focused on its intended interaction. Leave reserve for the descent, the return and a delay; shorten the plan if conditions become colder.

What can break the build

Armor is not the same attribute as cold protection. Some areas restrict building, so carried Campfire materials may not provide an emergency warming stop. Heater condition and consumable effects are temporary constraints.

Evidence limit

This is a preparation checklist, not an optimal numerical outfit or guaranteed safe crossing. The sources do not establish one universal clothing threshold, duration or current access to every exported equipment entry. Validate the installed Early Access build's equipment and warmth displays.

Prepare a Permafrost cold expedition around one objective, equipped protection and a route back to heat. Clothing, a usable Makeshift Heater and suitable temporary effects can help, but the live Body Warmth meter decides whether those conditions are manageable. No named outfit guarantees every Cold Zone crossing.

Resolve the clothing prerequisite first

Compare the cold attribute of the garments actually equipped, slot by slot. A new item in your pack supplies no equipped protection, and a later set can replace a stronger existing piece with a weaker one. Armor and cold protection need separate checks. The cold-zone clothing guide explains the progression and naming details.

When you need a craftable upgrade, confirm its learned recipe, Tailoring Bench access and material availability before beginning a hunting trip. The Tanning Rack chain connects pelts and Animal Fat to Treated Hide; keep that input distinct from Cloth. Check the recipe in your installed build for quantities rather than using an unverified universal outfit total.

Establish the recovery stop

Choose the warming point you will return to, then recover there before departure. At a fuelled and active Campfire, use Warm Hands and verify that Body Warmth rises. Starting with good Health does not replace a restored warmth reserve.

Check whether construction is allowed on the exposed part of the route. Campfire materials do not provide emergency heat when you cannot place the fire. Use the Body Warmth recovery checks if the planned stop fails before you leave; resolve that failure while retreat is straightforward.

Inspect portable protection and supplies

If you have a Makeshift Heater, inspect its condition and the active effect after equipping it. Repair a worn one before the trip using the current Repair Bench requirements. This plan supplies no verified universal heater lifetime; having one in storage does not prove it will cover the return.

Read the effects of the food or drink you intend to carry. Choose a warming item suited to the current need rather than assuming every beverage improves cold protection. Temporary effects can expire during the outing, so keep the route workable if their benefit ends sooner than expected.

Test exposure before adding a detour

Enter the colder area with a restored reserve and inspect the meter promptly. Stable warmth indicates the setup is handling those conditions. Slower loss is an improvement, but still consumes the reserve needed for the return. Do not wait for Health damage to make that distinction.

Complete the intended interaction and leave while the route remains manageable. An exposed climb also needs enough protection for descent. If weather worsens, the heater wears down or the meter drops quickly, shorten the plan. Optional looting is a separate trip when you cannot confidently cover it and the return.

Confirm the outcome after returning

The plan succeeds when you complete the chosen objective and reach usable heat again with the equipment and remaining reserve understood. If it fails, recover first and change the specific weak point: an equipped slot, heater condition, supplies or the route. Retest without changing everything at once.

Sources and plan limits

This preparation plan has not been tested in-game. Its documented dataset does not establish a universal insulation threshold, exact safe duration or current availability of every equipment entry.

Compare equipped clothing, inspect portable-heater condition and test exposure before committing to a long Cold Zone crossing.
