Permafrost Smelters: Stone Furnace & Quality Metal Routes

Compare Stone Furnace, Makeshift and Professional Smelter inputs, use the October 14 coal recipe, and prepare ingots for crafting and building.

← Back to catalogue

The October 14 official coal recipe is 3 Wood → 2 Coal in 10 seconds at a Stone Furnace. The older 5-Wood / 15-second export is superseded.

Makeshift and Professional Smelter costs and Quality Metal inputs below use the 0.44.2.4634 reference. Check your available station and the distinction between Iron and Iron Ingots.

Overview

Permafrost’s smelting stations serve different jobs. Use the Stone Furnace for basic ingots and coal, and compare the Makeshift and Professional Smelter recipes for Quality Metal. The October 14 update changes Stone Furnace coal production to 3 Wood → 2 Coal in 10 seconds.

Construction costs and point labels above come from 0.44.2.4634-milestone. Zero blueprint points does not mean zero building materials or that every output recipe is already learned.

Use the October 14 coal recipe

The official update supersedes the older export’s 5-Wood, 15-second coal entry. Each current documented Stone Furnace batch uses 3 Wood and yields 2 Coal in 10 seconds. When planning a batch, round up to whole crafts: for 15 Coal, eight batches supply 16 Coal and consume 24 Wood.

That arithmetic assumes the announced recipe and does not include time spent gathering or operating the station. Coal requirements for Copper and Iron below remain dated reference data.

Make ingots before the clothing station

OutputReference ingredientsReference time
1 Copper Ingot3 Copper + 5 Coal at Stone Furnace15 seconds
1 Iron Ingot3 Iron + 3 Coal at Stone Furnace15 seconds

The Tailoring Bench requires Copper Ingots, while building a Professional Smelter requires Iron Ingots. Carrying raw ore leaves the processing step unfinished.

The October 14 patch also replaces Iron Ore with Iron Ingots in the Disassembly Bench build recipe. Its announcement provides no ingredient count, so check the current construction panel rather than using an older raw-ore total.

Choose a Quality Metal route from your actual inputs

The reference Makeshift recipe uses 5 Iron + 5 Scrap for one Quality Metal in 20 seconds. The Professional entry uses 2 Iron Ingots + 2 Scrap with a 10-second timer. Do not compare the timers alone: the latter route needs processed ingots and its station.

Use the Quality Metal guide to plan that target. This page owns the station chain; no fixed advanced-metal pickup or unlimited ore respawn is established here.
